Louise Shanahan was born in Cork in 1997. She was introduced to athletics by her dad, a former international 800m runner. At age 9, Louise joined her local athletic club, Leevale AC, because she couldn’t make her primary school athletic team. She has since gone on to win National 800m and 1500m titles as well as qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics. Louise is also a full time Biophysics PhD student at the University of Cambridge.She hopes to finish her PhD before the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Most rewarding moment in sport: Lying on the track at the end of a hard session or race knowing that you have given it everything
Talents other than sport: I have crocheted lots of stuffed animals and I love baking!
